My computer is very slow, what should I do?
There are a lot of reasons why a computer would be slow, but for now we will just look at the solutions. You can check out reasons for a computer being slow.
My computer is very slow, what do i do?
This seems like an obvious solution, but trust me it usually resolves the lag in most cases. You may have processes running in the background without your knowledge and these could be slowing your computer. Rebooting will shut down these processes.
End unnecessary processes
If you do not want to reboot for any reason, you can shut down the processes that you do not need instead. To do this, open the task manager (by pressing ctrl+shift+esc keys) and click on the first link (processes).
Scroll down through the list, and end tasks that you feel are not needed for what you are currently doing. To end a task, just right click on it, and select “end task”. Alternatively, you can select the task, and click on “end task” at the lower right corner of the task manager.
Delete temp files
Temporary files are files stored on the hard disk, as the computer runs. If you have many applications running concurrently, the files size may be quite big, and thus slow your computer down. To open the temp folder, just click the start button and type “%temp%” without the quotes. Deleting these files can make your computer a bit faster.
Remember, delete the files and folders inside the temp folder, but don’t delete the temp folder itself.
Defragment your hard disk
Though this is usually a last resort, it can as well resolve your issue. To run the disk defragmentation, click the start button and type “defragment” without the quotes. Once it opens, select the disk /partition and click on either optimize, or analyze.
- Analyze – will perform an analysis of the disk, and give you a report and recommendations to run.
- Optimize – will give you straight recommendations that you will perform to optimize your disk.
You can schedule optimization to run automatically so you won’t have to do this all the time, Click on settings to set this. See below.

Double click on it to open the components under it. Right click on the component that you want and select update driver. If you have the driver already downloaded, select “browse my computer for driver software” from the options, and locate the driver. Otherwise, select “search automatically…….”. This will update the driver to the latest version.
Roll back drivers
If your problem started immediately after a driver update, you can roll back that driver. Perform the step in given above, and driver updating. But when doing your selection under driver options, select “roll back driver”.
